Bioinformatics Project Manager (PhD)
Are you an experienced bioinformatician who wants to assume leading roles in various omics research projects? Do you thrive in a global, multicultural and collaborative environment? If you answered yes to both of the questions, we have an exciting career opportunity for you! We are looking for a senior bioinformatician with a focus on single-cell data analysis to join our growing team. You can either work at our office in Tampere, Finland or 100% remotely within the European timezone.
As a Bioinformatics Project Manager you will work directly with some of our great customers, depending on your specialized expertise and the project requirements. Our customers comprise scientists in academia and biotech companies who use a broad range of omics technologies to answer biological and medical research questions and to develop new products and therapeutics.
What your responsibilities will be:
- Planning custom, state-of-the-art data analysis workflows with our customers
- Performing the planned and agreed analyses
- Presenting the results to our customers and assisting them in interpreting these results
- Collaborating with our customers to prepare academic publications
- Collaborating with our non-scientific Account Manager to provide high-quality service
What we expect from you:
- A PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biology or a related field
- Expertise in the analysis of single-cell transcriptomic data and, ideally, other single-cell and spatial data modalities as well
- Good knowledge of statistical concepts. Familiarity with machine learning applications is meritable
- Proficiency in Python, R and shell scripting
- Experience with Linux based HPC environments and job scheduling systems such as Slurm
- Additional merits: postdoctoral research experience
- Additional merits: experience in the analysis of any additional omics data
- Excellent communication skills and fluency in English
What we offer:
- An opportunity to collaborate with researchers in both top academic institutions and biotech companies in Europe and North America
- Opportunity to broaden your omics analysis skills in a wide range of customer projects and to allocate paid time for self development
- Peer support from your colleagues – nearly 20 senior bioinformaticians with diverse skill sets
- Predictable working hours and a low-bureaucracy, low-hierarchy Nordic work culture
- Access to a dedicated HPC environment with high-quality IT support
- Possibility to combine office work and remote work in a flexible way (our office is in Tampere, Finland) or the possibility to work 100% remotely within a European time zone
We’re looking forward to hearing from you! If you don’t have questions at this point, please submit your application latest on 24th November 2024. However, we encourage you to apply sooner rather than later, because we will start reviewing applications already during the application period and we’re looking to fill the position as soon as we find a mutual match.
What’s the recruitment process like:
- Your first point of contact will be Genevia’s Head of Talent Acquisition Arttu, and he will also keep you up to date about the recruitment process. If you have any questions, you can contact him at arttu.haapalainen@geneviatechnologies.com
- The first discussion is more general, focusing on us getting to know each other. We will want to learn more about your background and hear about your motivation and expectations in order to decide if we are a mutual match
- The second discussion will be with our Chief Research Officer, Maria Liivrand, who you’ll also be reporting to. The second discussion will be more technical and it’ll aim at assessing the level and type of bioinformatics expertise you have
- If you and we both think that we could be a mutual match, the third stage consists of going through the contractual details and making a job offer
