Meet our people
At Genevia, our greatest strength lies in the people who power our work. We're a diverse, international team united by a shared commitment to meaningful, high-quality science.
What connects us isn't just the work we do, but the way we do it. We care deeply about the outcomes we deliver, how we collaborate, and how we balance work and life. Freedom is part of our culture, and with it comes trust and a strong sense of responsibility.
Here, a few of our team members share their journeys—from academic research into careers that create real-world impact.

Fredrik Salmén, PhD, Senior Bioinformatician
Dr. Fredrik Salmén is a transcriptomics specialist, with an impressive background in developing and applying spatial and single-cell transcriptomics methods.
At Genevia, he thrives on combining his computational expertise with interdisciplinary communication skills to solve complex data analysis challenges for clients across both academic research and industry.

Alba Machado-Lopez, PhD, Senior Bioinformatician
Dr. Alba Machado-Lopez is a passionate bioinformatician driven by a love for continuous learning and opportunity to make a tangible impact on people’s lives.
We had the pleasure of welcoming her to our team in early 2024. How did she find her way to bioinformatics and Genevia Technologies?

Giulia Barbiera, PhD, Senior Bioinformatician
With a strong background in transcriptomics and epigenomics in the field of immuno-oncology, this multi-skilled bioinformatics expert finds joy in solving our clients’ data analysis challenges, regardless of the data type or biological context.
Read how Giulia's path led to the team of Genevia and how she reflected her first six months being part of it.

Joana Viana, PhD, Senior Bioinformatician
Our Senior Bioinformatician Joana Viana joined Genevia Technologies in 2022. She became instantly an integral part of our team, providing her bioinformatics expertise particularly in the areas of epigenetics and neuroscience.
We called Joana to Lisbon, where she lives, and interviewed her about her career and passion for bioinformatics.

Henry Barton, PhD, Chief Technology Officer
The scientists in our bioinformatics team come from diverse research backgrounds, all having transitioned from academia to industry at different points in their careers. In 2021, we had the privilege of welcoming Henry Barton to the Genevia Technologies team.
How did his journey take him from being a biology student in the UK to first becoming a Senior Bioinformatician at a Finnish bioinformatics company?

Grigorios Georgolopoulos, PhD, Chief Operating Officer
We had the privilege to welcome Dr. Grigorios Georgolopoulos to our team in late 2021 first as a Senior Bioinformatician.
Due to the field's interdisciplinary nature, career paths in bioinformatics are diverse and sometimes quite unpredictable. Here, he shares his story of converting from a wet-lab scientist to a computational biologist, and from academia to industry.
