• Can I work fully remotely?

  Yes, unless the job ad specifically says otherwise. Most of our team members work fully remotely, either in Finland or other countries in Europe.

  You will still be entitled to use our office space in Tampere, Finland, full-time, part-time, any time.
  

• What are the key qualities Genevia Technologies is looking for in candidates?

  For any position, we are looking for candidates with excellent communication skills in English, tech-savviness and people who are trustworthy, collaborative, easy to work with and passionate about their work.

  We’re most frequently hiring experienced bioinformaticians to work directly with our customers in varying projects. The Bioinformatics Projects Managers we’re looking for are usually equipped with post-doctoral research experience, a great track record (in the form of publications, typically) and familiarity with the analysis of various omics data types.

  A typical job applicant for a bioinformatics position is a researcher with a fully computational or hybrid biologist/bioinformatician background who, after completing a postdoc abroad wishes to relocate back to their home country in Europe and is looking for a remote bioinformatics job with a more stable position than as a postdoc or freelancer.
  

• What kind of projects do I get to work with?

  In bioinformatics and other customer-facing positions, you will work with our customers who are either academic researchers in some of the best institutions in Europe and North America or pharma companies, from university spin-offs to global giants. In either case, your contact persons on the customers’ side are senior researchers specialized in their subfield of biology or medicine, but who may have limited bioinformatics expertise. You will help them succeed in their omics-related research projects.

  These research projects range from basic research in biology (biomedical and other) to clinical research, such as drug mechanism-of-action studies and biomarker discovery. All projects involve NGS or other high-throughput molecular datasets.

• Will I work alone or in a team?

  In a bioinformatics position, you will have data analysis projects of your own. However, you will not be alone: dedicated team leads will help you in the practical side of project management, other bioinformaticians in our team will help you with data analysis -related questions based on their expertise, and our HPC administrators will help you with using our computing environment and by installing software packages. We do expect you to require assistance from your coworkers when learning something new, and we also expect you to support your coworkers when they need help with something you have experience with.

  In a non-bioinformatics position, you will similarly have support and management from the members of your team.
  

• What career development opportunities do you offer?

  Independent of your position, as needs arise, we offer opportunities for either promotion (more responsibility and a higher salary with the same team) or opportunities for a completely different type of role, e.g. moving from a bioinformatics role to a business role. As a rapidly growing company, the need to fill new types of positions – and managerial positions in particular – regularly arises. We strongly prefer to fill managerial positions by existing employees.

  In a bioinformatics position, you are also entitled to create a personalized development plan with your manager and allocate paid working time to learn new skills, not only within bioinformatics but also in non-technical topics such as sales or management. Of note, in our highly specialized business, practically all roles highly benefit from a background in bioinformatics.
  

• As a bioinformatician, what will my computing and software environment be like?

  In a bioinformatics role you will be using scripting and shell programming languages, such as R, Python and Bash, to implement data analysis workflows to run on our local high-performance computing cluster. Experience with job scheduling languages such as SLURM, workflow management languages as well as container management and cloud computing technologies is highly beneficial.

  You will be supported by our dedicated staff in the usage of our computing resources as well as our existing analysis pipelines and other preinstalled software.
  

• What is the recruitment process like?

  After receiving your application and deciding to proceed to an interview, our recruitment process for bioinformatics positions consists of three stages:

  1) A discussion with our Head of Talent Acquisition, Arttu. The first discussion is more general, focusing on us getting to know each other. We will want to hear about your motivation and expectations and tell you more about Genevia Technologies as a company in order to decide if we are a mutual match.

  2) A more technical discussion with our Chief Research Officer Maria and Bioinformatics Team Lead Grigorios. This discussion aims at assessing the level and type of your bioinformatics expertise and abilities to present results of a computational analysis to non-computational scientists.

  3) If you and we both think that we could be a mutual match, the third stage consists of going through the contractual details and making a job offer.

  For non-bioinformatics positions, the process will slightly differ; stage 2 is skipped or replaced with an interview focusing on your specialization, such as HR or marketing.
  

• Do you offer internships or entry-level positions?

  Generally not, unless otherwise stated in the job ad. Most of our personnel work as senior experts in omics data analysis and have both a PhD and postdoctoral research experience or comparable industry experience before joining us.
